The historic 1860's Great Republic sidewheel steamship was more powerful than others. It was built on Long Island, originally to be used for the import of Chinese goods. The plates used to print this lithograph have been destroyed, so there are no other prints.
Considered one of the greatest American realist painters of the 20th century, Mr. Addison displayed a technical brilliance that separated him from contemporaries and distinguished him as an artist with remarkable gifts.
